PureHealth4LIfe believes in supporting our troops, contractors and government employees who continue to courageously serve our country and have taken the initiative to implement a program to suit their needs. While everyone can benefit from our services, we are honored to provide to those who are in need of the relaxation and health benefits that come from therapeutic massage therapy.

Over the last several years, several statistics have been performed during Iraqi Freedom on injuries and massage therapy benefits. One statistic determined 2,800 soldiers were hospitalized due to musculoskeletal complaints during the Gulf War. Being that the increasing number of lower back and other musculoskeletal injuries seem to be the norm in modern warfare, and given that these conditions often are seen by massage therapists in the civilian sector, it would appear that massage therapists are just as qualified as other health care providers in helping to ease the pain and suffering of injured military personnel.

Another statistic showed there were benefits to military personnel  and contractors experiencing PTSD. PTSD is a complex problem and also considered an anxiety disorder caused by a stressful event with a host of symptoms that can cause difficulties in the daily lives of those who suffer from it.  There are medications that help with PTSD; however, the trouble with medications is they can have a variety of side effects. Massage is a holistic way of approaching PTSD without any of the harmful side effects that medication may have. It is best to consult with your doctor before you start any form of treatment.

Massage, performed by a therapist who is educated and respectful of the special
needs of trauma survivors can provide comfort and help to foster a sense
of hope for those who have been severely impacted by traumatic events.

Massage also provides emotional and physical benefits. Research has proven that massage can reduce anxiety, stress, and depression. We all need human touch; this is part of our genetic make- up. When dealing with emotional disturbances; touch is an integral part of the healing process. Massage is one way that provides this healing touch. Massage sessions that are methodical and routine can be very reassuring for those with PTSD.  Establishing boundaries and goals for each session and splitting the session into distinct phases aids the recipient in their acceptance of healthy touch.  The client has the opportunity to recognize feelings that may have surfaced during the session and to begin to process them in a positive manner.  Massage can help those with and without PTSD to be aware of their bodies in the present and to develop a nurturing method of self-care in their daily lives.

Massage Reduces Stress

Studies show that massage can alleviate the physical symptoms of stress. Massage helps reduce muscle tension and pain, lowers blood pressure, and promotes deep breathing. Massage creates a general sense of well-being and promotes relaxation. This will help increase sensitivity to the state of the body; making it easier for the client to determine when they should engage in de-stressing activities.

Massage Relieves Anxiety

Receiving massage reduces anxiety by promoting a sense of calmness. The soothing touch of a caring massage therapist goes a lot further than just the physical relief of symptoms. Anxiety can create a nervous tension in ones mind that seems unexplainable. Massage helps the client achieve a sense of calmness; thereby relieving the mental nervousness.

Massage Helps Depression

As more people are seeking alternatives to medications and the side effects they cause; research studies are demonstrating the healing effects of massage in cases of depression. Massage helps promote detoxification of the body by increasing blood and lymph flow. Massage also helps the body release hormones and neurochemicals that help regulate ones mood. Emotional balance is vital for people suffering with depression. The caring touch of a massage therapist helps provide that emotional balance. When a balance of the mind and body is achieved; ones quality of life is improved.

When To Seek Help For PTSD?

If you think you have PTSD you should consult with you doctor or a mental health professional. Ask them if massage therapy would be a viable means of treatment.
